The club said that Iyer, who has played 21 ODIs and 29 T20 internationals for India, will reach Old Trafford on 15 July before the start of the 50-over format. He will be with the team for the group stage matches for a month.
Iyer said, Lancashire was a respected name in England cricket which had a long association with Indian cricket. He was honored to carry on the legacy of great players like Farooq Engineer, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman at the Lancashire Club.
Lancashire’s Director of Cricket, Paul Allott said that Shreyas is one of the shining stars of the new generation of Indian batsmen. “We have decided to field a young team in the Royal London Cup because of the ‘The Hundred’ tournament this year,” he said.
He added, “It was necessary that we put the top-ranked veteran in the top-order batting to increase our chances in the tournament. Shreyas has experience in captaining the IPL apart from international cricket.”
