Indian batting star Shreyas Iyer lit up the field with his 15th List A century, scoring a brilliant hundred off just 75 balls in the unofficial ODI against Australia A. After the early wicket of opener Prabhsimran Singh, Iyer, leading the India A side, walked in at number three and wasted no time in making an impact.
With the combined efforts of Iyer and Priyansh Arya, India A piled up a massive 413/6 in their innings, putting the Aussies firmly on the back foot.
Shreyas Iyer Played A Key Role Ahead of Australia ODI Series
Shreyas Iyer’s powerful knock could not have come at a better time. With doubts over the availability of skipper Rohit Sharma for the upcoming ODI series against Australia, and vice-captain Shubman Gill also facing workload concerns, Iyer is being seen as a strong leadership option.
Shreyas Iyer’s Commanding Knock
Shreyas Iyer did have a slice of luck early on, getting dropped at 12 runs, but from that point, he was unstoppable. He reached his fifty in 50 balls and then shifted gears, completing his century in just 75 deliveries. His innings was packed with 11 fours and 4 sixes, showing his trademark mix of elegance and aggression.
Partnering with Riyan Parag in the middle overs, Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings while keeping the scoreboard ticking at a brisk pace.
Priyansh Arya’s Stunning Debut Hundred
If Shreyas Iyer was the rock, Priyansh Arya was the spark at the top. The left-handed opener, known for his fearless strokeplay in the IPL with Punjab Kings, made a dream debut for India A. He smashed a hundred off 85 balls before being dismissed right after reaching the milestone.
Shreyas Iyer’s knock of 101 off 84 balls included 11 boundaries and 5 sixes, striking at 120.23. He set the tone early, building a strong opening stand with fellow PBKS batter Prabhsimran Singh, who also chipped in with a well-made fifty.
Ayush Badoni Shines as Finisher
Adding the perfect finishing touch was Ayush Badoni, who has been in exceptional form across formats. Fresh off a double hundred in the Duleep Trophy for North Zone, the Delhi youngster carried his confidence into this game.
Coming in down the order after big knocks from Arya and Shreyas Iyer, Badoni played the ideal finisher’s role. He smashed a quickfire 50 off just 27 balls, peppering the innings with 4 fours and 3 sixes.
Known for his composure and aggressive shot-making, Badoni looks every bit the middle-order finisher India may rely on in the future.
Looking Ahead
With the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Priyansh Arya, and Ayush Badoni all stepping up in style, India A’s performance has been a glimpse into the country’s incredible bench strength. All eyes will now be on Gautam Gambhir and the selectors to see if some of these fresh names get a chance in India’s upcoming international assignments.
