Shubman Gill

After getting out for a duck in his first innings during the India vs Bangladesh Test in Chennai, Shubman Gill made a strong comeback. The right-handed batsman scored a fantastic unbeaten century in the second innings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Shubman Gill’s Remarkable Comeback

He was out for a duck after just eight balls, dismissed by Hasan Mahmud on the first day. However, Gill quickly turned things around by scoring an impressive 119 runs in his second innings. Like in the first innings, he had to bat early again, as Rohit Sharma was out for just 5 runs.

With Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) and Virat Kohli (17) getting out cheaply, it was up to Shubman Gill to help the team. He didn’t let them down. Gill and Rishabh Pant both scored fantastic centuries, putting India in a strong position.

They made a 167-run partnership for the fourth wicket until Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed Pant for 109. Meanwhile, Gill remained not out at 119 runs when India declared their second innings at 287/4. His innings came off 176 balls and included 10 fours and 4 sixes.

Historic Achievement: Century After Duck

Shubman Gill’s duck in the first innings and his impressive century in the second have placed him on an elite list. He is now the ninth Indian cricketer to score a duck in the first innings of a Test and follow it up with a century in the second innings. The first Indian to achieve this was Madhav Apte, who got out for a duck before scoring an unbeaten 163 against the West Indies in 1953 in Port of Spain.

Gundappa Viswanath was the second to reach this milestone, followed by legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Sachin Tendulkar.
