Hon. Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, along with Hon. Antonio Tajani, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, have confirmed their participation in SiGMA Central Europe, taking place in Rome from November 3 to 6.

President Metsola will open SiGMA’s inaugural Central Europe edition with a keynote address on November 4, followed by speeches from Hon. Tajani and SiGMA Founder Eman Pulis.

This landmark event, hosted for the first time in the historic city of Rome, will bring together leading figures from government, policymaking, and the public sector. The conference will feature four main stages, with appearances by high-profile speakers, including Hon. Federico Freni, Undersecretary of State at Italy’s Ministry for Economy and Finance.

H.E. Roberta Metsola: A Dynamic Leader in European Politics

Roberta Metsola made history in January 2022 when she became the youngest President of the European Parliament. In July 2024, she was re-elected for another term, making her the first woman and only the second person ever to serve two consecutive terms in this prestigious role.

Metsola has been a steadfast voice in support of Ukraine following Russia’s invasion. On April 1, 2022, she became the first President of an EU institution to visit Ukraine after the war began. Throughout her leadership, she has focused on creating a Parliament that is modern, efficient, and transparent.

Before her presidency, Metsola was elected to the European Parliament in 2013. Earlier in her career, she worked within Malta’s Permanent Representation to the EU and served as legal advisor to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

During her student years, she actively campaigned for Malta’s membership in the EU. Professionally, she is a lawyer specializing in European law and politics. Born in 1979, she is married to Ukko Metsola and is a mother of four sons.

Hon. Antonio Tajani: A Seasoned Statesman and Journalist

Antonio Tajani, currently serving as Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, began his professional journey in journalism in 1980. He worked as a parliamentary reporter, an anchor for GR1 Rai, and later as head of the Rome newsroom at Il Giornale.

A co-founder of Forza Italia, Tajani served as Vice President of the party from 2018 to 2023 and as National Coordinator between 2021 and 2024. On February 24, 2024, he was unanimously elected National Secretary of Forza Italia. He has also been Vice President of the European People’s Party since 2002.

Tajani’s impressive political career includes being elected to the European Parliament in 1994, serving as European Commissioner for Transport (2008), and later as Vice President and Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship (2010). In January 2017, he was elected President of the European Parliament.

From 2019 to 2022, he chaired the Committee on Constitutional Affairs and the Conference of Committee Chairs. Since October 22, 2022, Tajani has held his current position as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
