Singapore Open is an iconic tennis championship for women that has been taking place annually in Singapore and was first introduced in 1986. The event was held consecutively till 1994 and is being organised for the first time since then in 2025.
The tournament was held indoors during the inauguration year, and this year also, it’s an indoor event. The players compete in two categories; singles and doubles. Most titles for the singles category are held by Naoko Sawamatsu of Japan while for the doubles, Anna-Maria Fernandez of U.S.A. and Julie Richardson of New Zealand hold the title.
The 2025 edition will take place at Kallang Tennis Centre in Singapore from 27 January through 2 February 2025. This year will witness both experienced and fresh players in the tournament.
Here are some of the players to watch out for at the Singapore Open 2025.
1. Anna Kalinskaya

Currently, Anna Kalinskaya is ranked No.14 in the world, which makes her the highest-ranked player to participate in the Singapore Open this year. She withdrew from the recently concluded Australian Open minutes before the match. She is set to make her Singapore Open debut and will be looking to leave a mark.
The Russian started her career when she was 17 and won the Girl’s Doubles title at the Australian Open in 2016. She reached the highest ranking of her career in 2024, ranked at world No. 11.
2. Elise Mertens

Elise Mertens has one of the most astonishing careers.
The 29-year-old Belgian has won 21 Doubles titles, including the WTA Finals in 2022. She also holds 2 Australian Open Titles and a Wimbledon Crown.
Mertens is a baseline player with strong groundstrokes, although her backhand is stronger and also the reason for most of her wins. She plays defensively with aggressive shots. She is one of the most versatile and dangerous players to witness in this edition.
3. Wang Xinyu

Wang Xinyu recently won a silver medal in the Paris Summer Olympics in Mixed Doubles. The Chinese player reached the career-high ranking of No. 32 in 2023.
Xinyu started playing tennis at the age of 5 under the coaching of her father. She has grown to become one of the prominent tennis players from China.
