IFSC Sport Climbing World Cup Prague 2025: Athletes to watch
Adam Ondra
The competition in Prague will mark the farewell bouldering appearance for legendary Czechia climber Adam Ondra. The 32-year-old is the only male athlete to have won world championship titles in both Boulder and lead disciplines in the same year.
“In terms of longevity, it’s better for me to avoid those moves rather than push my body into extreme positions,” Ondra explained.
Organisers have planned a grand send-off for the five-time world champion, with the entire event carrying the slogan #lastboulderdance, a phrase that will also feature on the official merchandise. Hundreds of fans are expected to come out in support of their national hero.
Anraku Sorato
Olympic Games Paris 2024 silver medalist Anraku Sorato will be in pursuit of four leg wins from that many. He had earlier posted wins in Salt Lake City, Curitiba, and Keqiao.
The 18-year-old earned his second consecutive overall World Cup crown in boulder last year, and looks intent for a third. The Japanese has a 677-point lead over Lee Dohyun in second.
Nakamura Mao
Japan’s Nakamura Mao claimed the first IFSC World Cup win of her career in Salt Lake City to take her above the USA’s Annie Sanders at the top of the leaderboard. The Japanese recorded back-to-back fourth-place finishes in Keqiao and Curitiba before finally topping the podium in Utah
Annie Sanders
The American star finished on the podium in all three events this season. The 17-year-old grabbed a gold in the opener in Keqiao and only trails her Japanese rival by a narrow margin of 165 points.
