Deandra Dottin, a star all-rounder for the West Indies, has suddenly ended her career, citing worries over the team’s culture.
While representing Barbados at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham late on Sunday night, the 31-year-old all-rounder made the announcement on Twitter.
Thanks to all for the love and support with in my past 14 years of playing cricket for West Indies! I look forward to be playing domestic cricket around the world pic.twitter.com/Vmw6AqpYQJ

In her letter to Cricket West Indies, Dottin apologised for the decision and blamed organisational issues.
“Since cricket has always been a love of mine, I have given this announcement a lot of thought.” The message stated that when the fire goes out, one must take some time to reconsider their devotion.
I have faced numerous challenges throughout my cricket career, but the current environment and team culture haven’t been supportive of my capacity to flourish and rekindle my love.
“I realise that I am no longer able to adhere to team culture and team atmosphere since it has harmed my ability to function well,” the person said, “with much sadness but without regret.”
Dottin has participated in over 260 international games in both white-ball formats, scoring over 6000 runs and claiming over 130 wickets.
At the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup earlier this year in New Zealand, the all-rounder was at the top of her game. She displayed steely nerves to end the tournament opener with the ball against the hosts before making one of the greatest catches in tournament history to dismiss England’s Lauren Winfield-Hill with a full-stretch dive to her left.
The right-hander retires as the West Indies’ second-highest run scorer in women’s ODIs and T20Is, as well as fourth on the team’s list of wicket-takers in the shorter format.
Dottin will reportedly continue to compete for Barbados in the Commonwealth Games, with the Caribbean team scheduled to play India on Wednesday in a contest that could make or break their campaign.
