The player whom Sunil Gavaskar has recently described as Kohli’s ideal replacement had already scored a historic triple century against England. After that there were many ups and downs in his career but now after consistent performances in domestic cricket the selectors have again shown confidence in him. Gavaskar says that if he gets the right position and confidence, then this player can make a memorable comeback which will be beneficial for the Indian team.
Who is this player whom Gavaskar is supporting so much?
This player is none other than Karun Nair, who played an unbeaten innings of 303* runs at the beginning of his career. He achieved this feat in his debut series against England in 2016. However, after not scoring big runs in the next few matches, he was dropped from the team.
Nair was also included in the squad in 2018 India Tour of England squad, but he did not get the chance to play even in a single match. The team gave preference to Prithvi Shaw and Hanuma Vihari instead of him. Vihari also made his debut in 2018, while Nair just sat on the bench.

Gavaskar gave the example of Rohit Sharma, who was not in the team’s plans at one time, but today he is the captain of India. Gavaskar believes that Nair can also make an inspiring comeback if he is given a chance and a little luck is on his side.

Rohit Sharma has retired from the Test format and now Shubman Gill has been given the Test captaincy for the India tour of England. Rishabh Pant will be the vice-captain and Sai Sudharsan has been given a place in the squad for the first time. Mohammed Shami has been left out of the team due to fitness issues.
