Suryakumar Yadav is an Indian international right-handed batsman. His official journey started in 2010 when he made his debut in List A matches for Mumbai. He has been unstoppable since then. He was a part of India’s team that women the 2023 Asia Cup and 2024 T20 World Cup. He made his T20 debut in 2021 and ODI debut in the same.
He was appointed as the captain of the Indian team in 2023 and re-appointed in 2024 after the previous captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the T20s.

Formative Years of Suryakumar Yadav

Yadav was born in 1990, in Bombay. He started playing cricket at the age of 10 when he was placed in a cricket camp in Mumbai. He debuted in T20 against Hyderabad in 2010 and scored the most runs for Mumbai in Ranji trophy 2011-12. He was also a part of the under-22 team and scored 2 centuries.
In 2021, he scored a half-century in both T20s and ODIs. In 2022, he became the fifth Indian player to score a century in T20s. He also became the fastest to score 1,000 runs in T20s and achieved a top rank in ICC men’s player rankings for T20 batmen. He was appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the T20 series against West Indies in 2023 and was later named as the captain of the Indian team for the hone T20s series against Australia.
IPL Career

Suryakumar Yadav was signed by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2012 season, where he played only one match. Later in 2014, he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders where he scored 164 runs and was a part of the team’s very first victory in the league. Again in 2018, Mumbai Indians got him and he played for three seasons scoring a total of more than 1400 runs.
He could not make it to the 2022 season due to an injury but returned in 2023 as the vice-captain for Mumbai Indians. We witnessed his best IPL season as he scored a mind-boggling score of 605 runs in 16 matches. He will continue to play for Mumbai Indians in the upcoming IPL season 2025.

- He won the MA Chidambaram Trophy for the Best Under-22 cricketer by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in 2011.
- He was amongst the top five run-getters in the Ranji Trophy 2015–16.
- He scored more than 600 runs for the third consecutive season in the Ranji Trophy.
- He won “Best Batsman of the Final” in 2021 for playing against Payyade Sports Club.
- He became the first Indian to hit a six in the first ball in T20s in 2021.
- On 30 October 2022, he achieved the top rank in the ICC men’s player rankings for T20I.
- He was the third-highest run-getter in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with 239 runs in 2022.
