Suspended President Sanjay Singh Rejects IOA’s Ad-Hoc Committee

2 Min Read

In a twist to the ongoing saga within the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Sanjay Singh, the suspended president, has refused to acknowledge the ad-hoc committee established by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to oversee daily operations. Sources close to Singh revealed that he is planning to discuss the matter with the sports minister, emphasizing his rejection of the ad-hoc committee.

The IOA, responding to the suspension of the Singh-led WFI body by the Sports Ministry on December 24, formed a three-member ad-hoc committee to manage day-to-day affairs. Bhupinder Singh Bajwa, president of the Wushu Association of India, heads the committee, with Olympian MM Somaya and former international badminton player Manjusha Kanwar as members.

The Sports Ministry suspended the newly elected WFI body, citing a “hasty” decision that did not adhere to the WFI constitution, particularly concerning the announcement of U15 and U20 nationals. The ministry urged the IOA to establish a temporary panel for oversight.

Sanjay Singh, known for his proximity to WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, expressed his intent to seek legal advice against the suspension. He asserted that he would engage with the central government before proceeding with legal action.

The leadership crisis within the Wrestling Federation deepens as Singh takes a firm stand against the IOA’s ad-hoc committee, setting the stage for a complex resolution to the ongoing turmoil.
