Suspensions On Wrestlers Aman Sehrawat, Neha Sangwan Lifted

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has revoked the one-year suspensions of Olympic bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat and junior wrestler Neha Sangwan, reinstating both athletes after a disciplinary panel recommended a lenient approach. The decision clears the way for their participation in the National Championships in Ahmedabad this December, as well as the 2026 Asian Games and the upcoming Pro Wrestling League (PWL) auction.

Aman Sehrawat, Neha Sangwan’s Suspensions Revoked

Sehrawat, India’s youngest Olympic medallist from the Paris 2024 Games, was suspended after he arrived 1.7kg over the 57kg limit during the official weigh-in at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. The 20-year-old had joined the national preparatory camp in Croatia 18 days before his bout on September 14 but was reportedly unwell and unable to cut weight in time.

Neha Sangwan faced a similar fate after showing up overweight at the U20 World Championships in Samokov, Bulgaria, leading to her disqualification and subsequent suspension by the WFI.

In line with its recently stricter stance on weigh-in failures- strengthened after Vinesh Phogat’s unfortunate disqualification at the Paris Olympics- the WFI had initially issued show-cause notices to both wrestlers. Aman received his notice on September 22 and Neha on August 25, with their responses submitted by September 28 and September 18 respectively. The coaches appointed for the Zagreb event were also asked to explain the lapses.

Both wrestlers admitted to their mistakes in writing, clarified that it was their first offence, and assured the federation that such lapses would not recur. After reviewing their submissions, past performance records, and an apology letter from Aman, the WFI’s Disciplinary Committee convened on November 13, and recommended that the federation adopt a compassionate approach.

“Keeping in view their past record, the committee recommended that an opportunity be given to them and that the federation may consider adopting a lenient view,” the WFI said in a statement. Accepting the panel’s advice, WFI president Sanjay Kumar Singh officially lifted both suspensions and restored their eligibility for all future competitions.

However, the federation issued a stern warning that any repeat offence involving weight-management or disciplinary violations will attract far stricter punishment.

Both Aman Sehrawat and Neha Sangwan can now resume taking part in competitions, boosting India’s wrestling prospects ahead of a packed 2026 season.
