The FA Cup is the oldest national football competition in the world, having first been contested in the 1871/72 season. Part of the charm of the competition are the dramatic twists it offers and the runs of lower division and lesser fancied teams that capture the imagination of fans around the world with unexpected cup runs.
But the last time a club from outside the Premier League won the competition was West Ham (1979/80), and the last time a team from a lower division reached the final was Cardiff City in 2007/08.

Arsenal- 14 wins
Arsenal are the most successful team in FA Cup history with 14 trophies to their name. Their first trophy came in 1930 after a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town. The Gunners won the coveted prize eight times in the 22 editions spanning 1998 to 2020.
Arsene Wenger masterminded half of Arsenal’s FA Cup wins, with his seven starting with a double-clinching win in 1998 and ending with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea in 2017.
Arsenal most recently won the cup in 2020 under Mikel Arteta beating Chelsea 2-1 in a closed-doors clash at Wembley.

Manchester United- 13 wins
Manchester United’s claimed victory over rivals Manchester City in 2023 to lift their 13th FA Cup trophy. The title came under Erik ten Hag, while five of their 13 were won by Sir Alex Ferguson, his first coming in 1990 and last in 2004.
United have featured in more FA Cup finals than any other team at 22.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur- 8 wins
Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenha, have jointly won eight FA Cup trophies. Their last silverware came in the 2022 triumph, their first in 16 years.
Chelsea clinched seven of their eight trophies in the last 27 years, and even reached five of six finals between 2017 and 2022. Their last triumph came in 2018.
Tottenham Spurs won their first FA Cup title back in 1901. Their last Cup came in 1991 beating Nottingham Forest in the final.
