The prestigious magazine France Football has hinted that it will bring back the Super Ballon d’Or, through a post on its official social media account.
The Super Ballon d’Or has only been awarded once in history
The Super Ballon d’Or has only been awarded once in history, with Argentine and Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano winning this unique award. Di Stefano was awarded the accolade in 1989 for his great footballing career.
According to France Football, this special award can only be won by a player who has been extremely dominant in the last 30 years and who has won the Ballon d’Or multiple times.
Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi, with eight Ballon d’Ors, remains the leading candidate to win this historic award. He has excelled mainly with Barcelona, while also winning important trophies with Argentina and is currently playing in the USA with Inter Miami. He has played with Barcelona, PSG and Inter Miami.
Cristiano Ronaldo

On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo, with five Ballon d’Ors, is the closest follower, but in recent statements he has expressed underestimation of this award. He has played for Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Al-Nassr. He also won the most recent edition of the Nations League with Portugal.
They both have shared the ultimate stage of this century until now and are two sole candidates who can win this award. They also uniquely share some of the legacy of Di Stefano as well. Di Stefano and Lionel Messi both are from Argentina and Cristiano Ronaldo and Di Stefano both are Real Madrid legends.
It will be a hard choice between these two mavericks
If France Football brings back the Super Ballon d’Or after 35 years, everything indicates that it will be a hard choice between these two mavericks, to choose the most successful and dominant player of the modern era of football.
