Tim David Smashes Six, Fan Grabs Catch One-Handed With Vodka in Hand

When Tim David blasted 83 runs off just 52 balls to help Australia beat South Africa by 17 runs in the first T20I, one fan at Marrara Oval in Darwin had a moment he’ll never forget.

Harry Gill’s Incredible One-Handed Catch

Harry Gill, 26, was holding two cans of vodka in one hand when he pulled off an incredible one-handed catch, snatching one of Tim David’s eight huge sixes. That amazing catch has made Gill famous, and he might even land some lifetime sponsorship deals.

The catch happened in the 12th over of Australia’s innings. David sent the ball flying over the deep square-leg boundary for a six. While the South African fielders could only watch, Gill made a stunning one-handed grab.

“I had a bit of time, but it was just coming straight for me. I was praying I didn’t drop it,” said Harry Gill, who works as a pilot, speaking to The Age, an Australian news outlet.

“It just stuck. My hand is a bit sore this morning but, yeah, happy with it. My phone is blowing up,” he added.

At the time of the catch, Harry Gill was wearing a cap made by the fashion brand Good Day. According to The Age, Good Day is so impressed they want to give Gill a lifetime supply of their products.

We are serious about lifetime supply,” said Tom Birmingham, co-owner of Good Day. “We’re getting his address and he’ll be getting whatever. We’ll have something dropped off at his house every month. We’re going to fly him down to Sydney at the end of the year for our Christmas party,” he shared.

Harry Gill also talked about how famous he’s become overnight, saying he’s been contacted by people he hasn’t spoken to in years.

“People I haven’t spoken to in 10 years have been in contact,” Harry Gill said.

Meanwhile, Tim David’s explosive batting and Josh Hazlewood’s sharp bowling helped Australia secure a record ninth straight T20I win with a 17-run victory over South Africa at Marrara Stadium on Sunday.

Australia was struggling at 74 for 6, but David’s powerful 83 off 52 balls – mixing quick singles with his signature sixes — helped rescue the innings. He also shared a 59-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Ben Dwarshuis, helping Australia post a strong total of 178 in 20 overs.

On the bowling side, Hazlewood took 3 wickets for 27 runs, including two key wickets in the 15th over, while Dwarshuis also took 3 wickets for 26 runs. South Africa managed 161 for 9, handing Australia a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.
