Tokyo Olympics: PM Narendra Modi condolences India’s women’s hockey team after their defeat in Olympics

India’s women’s hockey team lost to Great Britain in a very narrow margin 3-4 in the bronze medal match of the Tokyo Olympics. Thereby they missed the opportunity of winning an Olympic medal in this Tokyo Olympics. They tried their level best to beat the 2016 Olympic champion Great Britain on Friday. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi spoke to the Indian women’s hockey team and congratulated their outstanding efforts.

All the team players and their coach stood in a circle as the captain of the team spoke to Prime Minister using the speaker mode. The goal-keeper of the Indian hockey team Savita along with several other players were unable to control their emotions as they were hearing some motivational words from the PM.

“Your sweat has become the inspiration for crores of women in the country. I congratulate all the players and the coach”, PM Modi said.

PM Minister Modi showed concern to women’s hockey player Navneet Kaur as she was seen injured as had four stitches near her eye. In reply, the captain of the women’s hockey team Rani Rampal thanked Prime Minister Modi.

As PM Modi heard the players cry, he said:

“Stop crying, I can hear you cry. The country is proud of you, don’t be disheartened. After so many decades, hockey, which is India’s identity, is again getting prominence for your hard work”.

PM Modi also appreciated the hard work and efforts of India’s women’s hockey team coach Sjoerd Marjne.

“You tried your level best. You have encouraged the girls. Wish you all the best for the future”, said PM Modi to the coach. The coach Sjoerd Marjne in reply thank you and further told girls couldn’t control their emotions after they lost to Britain in the bronze medal match.

“I also told the girls that they inspire the nation and that is very important and they must cherish that. Thank you, sir, Modi namaste”, quipped Modi.

Indian women’s hockey team lost in the semi-final to Argentina earlier this week with 1-2. The team lost despite leading 1-0 at one point. India’s women’s hockey team ended their Olympic journey with heartbreak as they went home without winning an Olympic medal after playing promisingly throughout the tournament.
