Shubman Gill, a right-handed top-order batsman from Punjab, is known for his love for huge runs and was thus picked into India’s Under-19 squad as vice-captain for the 2018 World Cup. Prior to that, he made his first-class debut for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy in late 2017 with a half-century and an attacking 129.

He is the next big thing in cricket, the heir to Virat Kohli, the batting pioneer in the next era of Indian cricket. Youngest batter in ODI history to strike a double century. His batting would enable Gujarat Titans win the 2022 IPL finals and advance to the 2023 IPL finals, but they were defeated.

  • Punjabi Boy

On September 8th, he was born in Fazilka, Punjab. His father was a farmer, but he opted to relocate to Mohali, closer to the I.S Bindra Stadium, so that he could receive better training because he knew he had skill. He began playing cricket at the age of three.

  • Shubhman’s Idols

Every cricketer growing up has seen someone play before, and that’s what drew them to the sport; Shubman Gill is no exception, having grown up watching Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, who is also from a Punjabi household. When they play together, his bromance with Virat Kohli is visible on the pitch. Sachin Tendulkar is his favourite cricketer.

  • Superstitions

Everyone has a belief that they believe works for them, and many of them are well-known, such as Sachin’s, in which he wears his left pad first. When Shubman Gill is playing a match, he always wears a red handkerchief. This began when he was playing an Under-16 match, in which he scored a century and began wearing a handkerchief ever since.

In the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017, he made his List A debut for Punjab against the Vidarbha team. In the 2017 Ranji Trophy, he made his first-class debut for Punjab. In the same year, he earned his first first-class century against the Bengal team in his second first-class encounter.

He has played 44 first-class matches, scoring 3469 runs at an average of 51.01, with 10 centuries and sixteen fifties. List-A has played 79 matches in his career and has scored 3575 runs at an average of 52.57, including ten hundred and sixteen fifties.

  • World Cup for Under-19s

He was the 2018 Under-19 player of the tournament and his team’s leading run-scorer in the world cup, scoring 372 runs in five innings. He was Captain Prithvi Shaw’s deputy. During the competition, he hit three fifties and a century.

  • Youth ODI

Shubman Gill has played 15 youth ODI innings, scoring four hundred and six fifties. He has 1149 runs with an average of 104.45, making him the only hitter in youth ODI history with an average above 100, and this record is nearly tough to break.

  • International Career

He made his debut for India against New Zealand in 2019, his test debut against Australia in the infamous series, and his T20I debut against Sri Lanka. He is the second-fastest player in ODI history to score 1000 runs, having done it in just 19 innings. He has scored 2440 runs in 47 international matches, including seven hundred and nine fifties, including a double century. He is the fifth Indian to hit a century in each of the game’s formats.

  • IPL Auction

Shubman Gill was auctioned off in the 2018 IPL after his World Cup performance, and Kolkata Knight Riders paid 1.8 crore for him, which was nine times his base price of 20 lakhs. Prior to the super auction, he was released by KKR and selected by the newly created Gujarat Titans, who acquired him for Rs. 8 crores, making him the team’s third player after Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan.

  • IPL Performance

Shubman Gill made his IPL debut in 2018 but did not play a designated batting position. He did, however, play 13 matches and scored 203 runs. His place was still unclear in the following two editions, although he managed to score 296 and 440 runs in 14 matches apiece, with three fifties in each season. His batting position was cemented in IPL 2021 when he began opening for KKR; he made 478 runs in the edition in which KKR reached the IPL final. When he first joined GT, he was in peak form, having scored 1373 runs in two editions and three centuries in the most recent one.
