3 players who can captain Mumbai Indians in the absence of Hardik Pandya against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025

The BCCI has released the full schedule of IPL 2025 on Sunday (February 16), according to which Mumbai Indians have to play their first match on 23 March against Chennai Super Kings at their home ground Wankhede Stadium. A bad news has come out for the fans of the home team in this match.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya will be absent in the El-Classico match starting at 07:30 pm on Sunday. However, the reason for his absence is not normal, as he has been banned for one match as captain due to slow-over rate in three matches last season.

According to the rules of IPL, if a team is found guilty of slow-over rate in three matches in a season, then the captain of that team has to face a fine as well as a one-match ban. Last season, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant also had to face a one-match ban under this rule.

Due to the absence of captain Hardik Pandya in the first match to be played against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025, some other player of the team will have to take over the captaincy.

Here we are going to tell you about those three players who can take over the command of Mumbai Indians in the absence of captain Hardik Pandya against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025.

Who Will Lead Mumbai Indians Against CSK in IPL 2025?

3. Rohit Sharma

Former captain Rohit Sharma, who made Mumbai Indians champion five times under his captaincy, can take over the command of the team in the absence of Hardik Pandya in the first match to be played against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025. The franchise removed him from the captaincy before the start of last season, which was criticized a lot. In such a situation, if Rohit is ready to take over this responsibility, then it will be very good news for his fans.

2. Jasprit Bumrah

Experienced fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah started his IPL career for Mumbai Indians and is still a part of the same team. Although he has never captained the team in the IPL so far, he has captained the Indian team in two Test matches played on foreign soil at the international level. In the absence of Hardik, he can also take charge of the team for a match.

1. Suryakumar Yadav

Currently, Indian T20 team captain Suryakumar Yadav is the biggest contender to replace Hardik Pandya as captain in the first match to be played against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025. Under the captaincy of Suryakumar, the Indian team has performed very well in T20 international cricket, due to which he may get a chance to take charge in the El-Classico match of IPL.
