Whenever someone mentions the number 7 jersey of Manchester United the first few names that comes to everyone’s mind is Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Eric Cantona and more.   • Bryan Robson

Bryan Robson, who was once chosen as the finest Manchester United player in 2011, is unquestionably a club legend. Robson paid £1.5 million to join the team in 1981, a then-record transfer fee. In his inaugural game for the Red Devils against Manchester City, he wore the number 7 jersey. The 1983 FA Cup semifinal matchup versus Arsenal was Bryan Robson’s most memorable performance.

He scored in a 2-1 victory over Arsenal after overcoming an injury. The Englishman continued to score, tying the score with a brace against Brighton in the FA Cup final. Robson was then Manchester United’s second English captain to win the championship.

He had almost 500 appearances and 100 goals after 13 years with the team. one of the best athletes and unquestionably a legendary number 7.

One of the most fan-favourite players of the 1960s and 1970s was George Best. In 361 league games for the Red Devils, the left winger led his team with 137 goals. He contributed to United’s first-ever European Cup victory. They made history by winning the European Cup as the first English club.

His greatest accomplishments included winning the Ballon d’Or in addition to the European Cup and wearing the number 7 jersey. The Northern Ireland player won the 1968 Ballon d’Or for his accomplishments at the early age of 22.

His status at the club can be summed up by a simple line from Sir Matt Busby who served as a manager when Best was at the Red Devils. Matt Busby once said, ‘It was a very simple team talk. All I used to say was: “Whenever possible, give the ball to George Best.”’
