1. Women’s Ashes- 12 January-2 February

England and Australia will battle it out in Women’s Ashes 2025 in Australia. The contest will be split across all three formats, culminating in a one-off, four-day Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground that will also be the first day-night Test to take place there. 

The last edition of women’s Ashes culminated in a draw and this time both the teams will be looking to produce results in their favour, respectively. While England won their last women’s Ashes in 2014, Aussies has retained the Urn for three consecutive series – 2017-18, 2019 and 2021–22 – making them the current holder of the trophy.

2. Club World Cup- 15 June-13 July

The Club World Cup is one of the top sports events to watch out for as it will be staged in a revamped format. The tournament has been expanded to 63 games and clubs have been expanded to 32, an extended format that has raised eyebrows of many experts. 

This means there will be more football in 2025 and players will be on the grind. Some mouth-watering encounters such as Chelsea v Flamengo and Manchester City vs Juventus are in the offing.

3. Women’s Euro 2025- 2-27 July

Switzerland hosts the biggest women’s football tournament of 2025 and England will look to defend the title they won so memorably in the summer of 2022.

Wales and Poland will make their tournament debut at the Women’s Euro 2025.  While Wales have been drawn in Group D alongside England, the Netherlands and France, Poland faces stiff competition from the likes of Germany, Denmark and Sweden in Group C.

Hosts Switzerland are placed in Group A, while world champions Spain find themselves in B alongside Italy, Belgium and Portugal.

4. Women’s Rugby World Cup- 22 August-27 September

England will play host to the most prestigious tournament in women’s rugby for the first time since 2010.  The Red Roses will be hungry to be champions for the first time since 2014. 

John Mitchell’s team begin their campaign with a match against the USA at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on August 22 before taking on the other two teams in Group A, Samoa and Australia, in Northampton and Brighton respectively. 

Defending champions New Zealand will once again be hoping to reach the final in Twickenham.

5. Women’s ODI World Cup- September-October

The women’s ODI World Cup returns to India for a fourth time, and for the first time since 2013.  Australia are the defending champions and are the team to beat. It is one of the top sports events as far as cricket is concerned. 

England, who won their last ODI World Cup since 2017, will fancy to once again emerge as the champions. New Zealand, who won the women’s T20 World Cup 2024, will be looking to make it big in the 50-over format. 

6. Men’s Ashes- 21 November-8 January 2026

England will be in pursuit of a first Ashes series win in Australia since 2010-11. The first Test is scheduled to take place in Perth and not Gabba. The iconic Brisbane venue has hosted  every opening match between these sides in Australia since 1986-87. 

Cricket lovers can expect heated action on hot afternoons in Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.  One hopes the Ashes rivalry will stand to its reputation. 

7. Africa Cup of Nations- 21 December-18 January 2026

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations men’s football tournament is set to be staged in Morocco.  The host country of the continental event will hope to build on their success at the FIFA World Cup in 2022 where they became the first African nation to reach the semi-final stage.

Cote D’Ivoire are the reigning champions after beating Nigeria in the 2023 edition, held in 2024, and will be back to defend their crown. It is among the top sports events this year.
