The year 2025 marked dramatic turns of events regarding tennis players and their coaches. Several high-profile players parted ways with their coaches. However, there were also many  prominent tennis players who re-engaged former coaches in 2025.

Let us have a look at the top tennis players who rehired their coaches in 2025:

Jannik Sinner and Umberto Ferrara

Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner rehired Umberto Ferrara as his fitness coach nearly a year after firing him for his role.

The move came after Sinner recently removed fitness coach Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio from his team.

Last year, Sinner tested positive twice for the banned substance Clostebol. Sinner said his fitness trainer at the time, Ferrara, purchased a product in Italy and gave it to then-physiotherapist, Giacomo Naldi for a cut on his finger. Naldi then treated Sinner while not wearing gloves.

Sinner then fired Naldi and Ferrara.

The duo has reunited, however.

“Umberto has played an important role in Jannik’s development to date, and his return reflects a renewed focus on continuity and performance at the highest level,” a statement from Sinner’s team said Wednesday.

Elena Rybakina and Stefano Vukov

Elena Rybakina parted ways with Stefano Vukov in August 2024 and hired Goran Ivanisevic as her new coach ahead of the 2025 campaign. However, Vukov got back in Team Elena Rybakina.

Rybakina won all eight of her WTA titles to date, including the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, while working with Vukov, having appointed the Croatian coach in February 2019.

The 25-year-old won three WTA 500 tournaments and reached two WTA 1000 finals in 2024.

In a post shared on her Instagram story, Rybakina announced Vukov’s unexpected return to her team.

“Hello everyone. I am excited to announce that Stefano will be joining the team for the 2025 season,” the Kazakh wrote. “Thank you for all the support. And wishing you a great 2025.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Apostolos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas reappointed his father Apostolos as his coach following a split with former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic.

The Greek’s brief stint with Ivanisevic came to an end in July, less than two months after the pair started working together.

Ivanisevic, who guided Novak Djokovic to nine of his 24 Grand Slam titles, was critical of Tsitsipas and said “I have never seen such an unprepared player in my life” following his first-round exit at Wimbledon.

Tsitsipas parted ways with his father in a coaching capacity last August.

Tsitsipas reached number three in the world under the guidance of his father, who was his full-time coach from an early age, but has slipped to number 30 since their split in 2024.

“Some journeys have a way of circling back to where they began,” Tsitsipas wrote on social media after a second-round defeat to Christopher O’Connell at the Canadian Open on Wednesday.

“After some time apart, I’ve reunited with the person who first believed in me – my father.

“Sometimes, coming home is the boldest step forward.”

Holger Rune and Patrick Mouratoglou

Holger Rune reunited with former coach Patrick Mouratoglou after his partnership with Boris Becker and Severin Luthi ended following a disappointing Australian Open campaign in 2025.

The 20-year-old has previously worked with Frenchman Mouratoglou and won the 2022 Paris Masters title, beating world number one Novak Djokovic in the final under his guidance.

“Sometimes you must try a variety of things to find out what works for you and what does not,” Rune said on social media site X, formerly Twitter, confirming Mouratoglou’s return.

“In the recent months I have learned a lot about what’s important for me. With Patrick, I did some of my greatest triumphs and I believe he can help me achieve my goals.”
