Tottenham Hotspur secures a loan deal for German forward Timo Werner from RB Leipzig. The seasoned player returns to the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur has officially announced the signing of German forward Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig, pending international clearance. The deal, lasting until the end of the season, includes an option for a permanent transfer in the summer. Werner, who previously played for Chelsea, is set to wear the number 16 shirt for Spurs, and there’s anticipation for his potential debut against Manchester United on January 14.

Werner, 27, is no stranger to the Premier League, having spent the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons with Chelsea. During his time there, he contributed 10 goals and nine assists in 56 Premier League appearances and was a key part of the squad that secured the UEFA Champions League title in the 2020/21 season.

The German forward’s football journey began with TSV Steinhaldenfeld before progressing through VfB Stuttgart’s youth ranks. He made his senior debut in August 2013, becoming the youngest player in the club’s history. During his tenure with VfB Stuttgart, Werner made 103 senior appearances, scoring 14 goals and holding the distinction of being the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer.

Werner moved to RB Leipzig in June 2016, where he enjoyed a prolific spell, scoring 95 goals in all competitions over four seasons. His standout performance earned him a move to Chelsea in the summer of 2020. Despite some challenges, including a reputation for missing key chances, Werner contributed to Chelsea’s Champions League triumph in 2020/21.

The 27-year-old forward returned to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2022. His impressive career also extends to the international stage, where he played a vital role in Germany’s triumph at the 2017 Confederations Cup, winning the Golden Boot. Werner has accumulated 24 goals in 57 international appearances.

With this loan deal, Tottenham Hotspur aims to benefit from Werner’s attacking prowess and experience, providing a significant boost to their squad for the remainder of the season.
