Tottenham Trigger Morgan Gibbs-White’s Release Clause as Thomas Frank’s Summer Rebuild Gathers Pace
Tottenham are cooking. And the next ingredient in Thomas Frank’s transfer stew? None other than Morgan Gibbs-White.
Yep, that Morgan Gibbs-White, the Nottingham Forest dynamo, is all set for a big-money move to north London after Spurs triggered his £60 million release clause.
The 25-year-old midfielder will undergo a medical on Friday, and if all goes to plan, he’ll soon be pulling on a lilywhite shirt. Not bad for a player Forest once slapped with a £100 million price tag.
Gibbs-White to Spurs: What’s the Deal?
Spurs have moved swiftly to seal the deal, beating out heavyweight interest, most notably from Manchester City earlier this summer. City, however, backed out after being quoted silly money, and turned to Rayan Cherki and Tijani Reijnders instead. Their loss looks like Tottenham’s gain.
And here’s a bonus subplot: Gibbs-White’s former club Wolves are due a slice of the pie. Thanks to a 10% sell-on clause on anything above £25 million (plus the £17m add-ons Forest paid in 2022), Molineux will see some tidy passive income rolling in.
Gibbs-White’s 2024/25 Season at a Glance
In what turned out to be a breakout campaign, Gibbs-White notched 7 goals and 8 assists in 34 Premier League appearances, helping Forest sneak into the Europa Conference League with a seventh-place finish. Not too shabby for a side many tipped for relegation.
But with Forest now cashing in and Anthony Elanga reportedly heading to Newcastle for £55 million, Gibbs-White becomes the second marquee exit of the summer at the City Ground.
Frank’s Spurs Revolution Rolls On
As for Tottenham, it’s all starting to come together under new boss Thomas Frank. The former Brentford tactician has been backed heavily in his debut window, and clearly rates Gibbs-White highly, having wanted him back in his Bees days.

The England international will join a fresh-looking Spurs squad that already boasts new faces galore:
Mohammed Kudus (deal worth £55 million from West Ham, medical underway)
Kota Takai, Japanese centre-back from Kawasaki Frontale
Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso, both made permanent after loan stints last season
Add Champions League football into the mix (Spurs qualified after winning last season’s Europa League, by the way), and you’ve got one very attractive destination for any ambitious playmaker.
Final Whistle
From dodging relegation scraps at Forest to starring on Tuesday nights in Europe, Morgan Gibbs-White is stepping up. And with Thomas Frank plotting a tactical reboot at Tottenham, don’t be surprised if MGW turns out to be the centre piece of the next big Premier League success story.
