In the ICC T20 U-19 Women’s World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, India defeated Sri Lanka by 60 runs and entered the Super Six. G Trisha scored 49 runs and the Indian bowlers, bowling early, stopped Sri Lanka at 58 runs. India won all the matches of the group stage and topped the group.

With the help of opener G Trisha’s 49-run innings and the fast bowlers’ brilliant bowling with the new ball, India registered a one-sided 60-run victory over Sri Lanka here on Thursday. With this, India entered the Super Six of the ICC Under-19 T20 Women’s World Cup by topping Group A.

In difficult conditions for batting, Trisha hit five fours and a six in her 44-ball innings, helping India post a competitive score of 118 for nine wickets. Mithila Vinod (16 runs in 10 balls) and VJ Joshitha (14 runs in 9 balls) scored runs quickly in the last overs. After this, fast bowler Joshitha (2 wickets for 17 runs) and Shabnam Shakeel (2 wickets for 9 runs) took two wickets each in the first four overs and reduced Sri Lanka’s score to 4 wickets for 9 runs.

In the next over, captain Manudi Nanayakkara was run out and half of her team reached the pavilion by 12 runs. Sri Lanka’s team could score only 58 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. India ended its group-stage campaign with three wins in three matches. For Sri Lanka, only Rashmika Sewandi (15 runs in 12 balls) could score in double digits.

She was looking in good rhythm but while trying to hit a big shot on the ball of Parunika Sisodiya (2 wickets for 7 runs) to reduce the required run rate, she was caught out by Mithila Vinod. Ayushi Shukla (1/13) and Vaishnavi Sharma (1/3 in four overs), who took five wickets for five runs against Malaysia, also did not allow the Sri Lankan batsmen to score any runs.
