The Indian Team participating in the 2020 Thomas & Uber Cup are performing excellently. The prestigious tournament is a World Team Championships held every two years for both Men’s and Women’s respectively is being held at the Ceres Arena in Aarhus, Denmark from 9th – 17th October 2021. India is placed in Group B of Uber Cup 2020.
India has won against Spain by 3-2 in their opening match of Group B. On Tuesday, 12 October – faced Scotland in their 2nd Match of Uber Cup 2020. Thus, winning it comfortably by a score of 4-1 and have secured a place in the quarter-finals.

India in their must-win game against Scotland played a different Line-up consisting of young players. India’s experienced shuttlers like Saina Nehwal & Double’s Pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N. Sikki Reddy missed this match. However, Saina Nehwal sitting out in this match was excepted as the star player in India’s opening clash against Spain had retired with injury.
India 4-1 Scotland – Group B Encounter
The opening fixture was Women’s Singles, where youngster Malvika Bansod of India was up against 26th Ranked Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland. The experienced Kirsty Gilmour, 28, won in two straight games 21-13, 21-9 as the match lasted for about 36 Minutes. Hence, Scotland is in the lead. Thus, India 0-1 Scotland.
However, Next up – 2nd Women’s Singles where India levelled up as the 18-year-old Aditi Bhatt defeated Rachel Sugden of Scotland in two straight games 21-14, 21-8. The match lasted for about twenty-six minutes. With this, India 1-1 Scotland.
Thus, Women’s Doubles was next as the Indian duo of Tanisha Crasto/Rutaparna Panda defeated the 49th Ranked Scottish pair of Julie MacPherson/Ciara Torrance in two straight games 21-11, 21-8. The Indian pair continued their dominating performances and beat a pair ranked higher than them. Therefore, India leading by 2-1.
Whereas, 3rd Women’s Singles was played next. For India – Tasnim Mir, age 16, won the tie by clinching the match in two straight games 21-15, 21-6 against Lauren Middleton of Scotland. The Indian dominated throughout the match e.g., in the 2nd Game she was leading by 8-0. This encounter lasted for about 25 Minutes. As a result, India 3-1 Scotland.
The last fixture was 2nd Women’s Doubles, where India’s Treesa Jolly/Gayathri Gopichand were up against Scottish pair of Kirsty Gilmour/Eleanor O’Donnell. The Indian pair were playing their 1st senior international match defeated their opponents in about 55 minutes as the match went to a decider. The final score read 21-8, 19-21, 21-10 in favour of the Indians. Hence, India 4-1 Scotland.
Therefore, India won 4-1 against Scotland in Group B of Uber Cup 2020. Thus, India has advanced to the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, will face Thailand in their last match of Group B – Tomorrow on 13th October.
