Udita Duhan Aims to Continue Goal-Scoring Streak in Semifinal Clash with Germany
Udita Duhan’s goal-scoring prowess elevates the Indian women’s hockey team ahead of the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers semifinal clash with Germany.

Celebrating her birthday with a goal and achieving a milestone in her 100th international match, Indian women’s hockey team defender Udita Duhan is on a remarkable goal-scoring spree. The 25-year-old, who scored only eight goals in her previous 97 starts, has found the net thrice in the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers, becoming a standout performer for the team.
Udita’s pivotal goals in India’s wins against New Zealand and Italy have played a crucial role in securing the team’s spot in the semifinals. Expressing her happiness and emphasizing the significance of team victories, Udita is focused on contributing to India’s success in the upcoming clash against World No.5 Germany.
Having started as a handball player and later transitioning to hockey, Udita’s journey is marked by determination and dedication. She credited the team’s analysis of defenders’ movements in penalty corners for her recent goal-scoring success. Udita’s powerful slap shots have proven effective, especially in the absence of other drag flickers like Gurjit Kaur and Deep Grace.
Coach Janneka Schopman praised Udita’s mindset and execution of the slap shot, highlighting its effectiveness. Udita, who made her debut in 2017, has been a consistent performer, contributing to India’s silver medal at the 2018 Asian Games and other significant tournaments.
Overcoming personal challenges, including the loss of her father in 2015, Udita’s perseverance, and her mother’s encouragement have shaped her successful hockey career. With her recent stellar performances, Udita looks poised for an enhanced role in the team, particularly as Deep Grace Ekka contemplates retirement.
As India prepares for the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers semifinal against Germany, Udita’s goal-scoring form adds a valuable dimension to the team’s strategy. Her contributions on both defensive and offensive fronts have earned her recognition and are expected to play a pivotal role in future matches for the country.
