Netherlands vs Finland, UEFA World Cup qualifier 2026 was a one-sided Dutch show as Ronald Koeman’s team emerged 4-0 victors in Amsterdam. With a sparkling and clinical performance, the Oranje moved another step closer to confirming the Netherlands’ participation at next year’s World Cup, fueled by the comeback of Memphis Depay and an updated attacking line.

Memphis Depay Shines in Return to Starting XI

Back in the starting lineup, Memphis Depay made his mark, providing two assists and scoring on the penalty spot. Koeman’s choice of playing Depay ahead of Tijjani Reijnders proved lucrative as the Dutch attack came together early. Behind him lined up Donyell Malen, Justin Kluivert, and Cody Gakpo, providing speed and ingenuity that Finland could not stem.

Early Goals Set the Tone for Dutch Dominance

The Netherlands broke the deadlock pretty quick. Just eight minutes in. Depay got the ball to Donyell Malen. Malen then smashed this angled shot right into the top corner. It went past Finland’s keeper Jesse Joronen, no problem.

Things kept building from there. Pressure on. By the 17th minute, Virgil van Dijk stepped up. He headed in a free-kick from Depay. That made it 2-0.

Malen almost scored a second, just missing with a glancing header from a cross by Gakpo, while defender Jurrien Timber had his header strike the crossbar early on.

Depay Adds Third from the Spot Before Halftime

As Finland struggled to hold off the Dutch onslaught, a box handball provided the hosts with an opportunity to increase their lead. Depay did not err from the spot, scoring his 54th international goal, and celebrating with the home fans.

Tactical Changes and Game Management in Second Half

During the halftime break, Tijjani Reijnders came on for Ryan Gravenberch. That was to get a bit more control in the midfield, you know. Later on, Koeman swapped out Depay for Wout Weghorst around the 62nd minute. He went with that move to hold onto the lead, playing things a little more careful. Pretty much a defensive shift there. Even with the change in tactics, the Dutch continued to score.

Gakpo’s Late Goal Caps Off a Clinical Display

As Finland labored to fashion any decent chances, Cody Gakpo put the icing on victory with a classy curling shot from the outskirts of the area. The ball nicked the inside of the post, leaving Joronen with no hope and sealing a 4-0 victory in the Netherlands vs Finland UEFA qualifier.

Netherlands Now in Prime Position to Qualify from Group G

This emphatic win puts the Netherlands at the head of UEFA Group G, in complete charge of their World Cup qualification ambitions.

What’s Coming Up for Oranje:

November 14 – Away to Poland

November 17 – Home to Lithuania

A solitary win in Warsaw or two draws from their remaining games would be sufficient to take the Netherlands to the 2026 World Cup as group champions.
