England has announced the squad for the 2025 UEFA European Women’s Championships that will take place in Switzerland next month.
Manager Sarina Wiegman named the 23-player squad even as the Lionesses seek to become just the third team in the history of Women’s Euro to successfully defend their title, joining Germany and Norway to achieve the impressive feat.
However, the team will be missing its core members that were part of their 2022 victory at Women’s Euro. Goalkeeper Mary Earps announced her shock retirement recently, followed by Fran Kirby’s.
The biggest surprise, though, came from Millie Bright who made herself unavailable for selection.
Leah Williamson, Lucy Bronze, and Georgia Stanway are among the senior players that have been retained in the squad.
Out of the 23, seven are set to experience their first major tournament – including Aggie Beever-Jones, Khiara Keating, and Maya Le Tissier . Arsenal’s Michelle Agyemang, recently earned a call up to the senior side, has also been added to the squad.
Lauren James returns to the squad after nursing an injury in the run-up to the Euros.
Sophie Baggaley, Laura Blindkilde Brown, Missy Bo Kearns, and Lucy Parker have been placed on the standby list.
“I know this is an exciting day, for the players and also for our fans and it underlines that the tournament is coming soon,” Wiegman said.
“This group is a very well-balanced mix of players with multiple tournaments on their CVs and also those that will make their tournament debuts.
“I’m excited to see what we are capable of this summer.”
