Union Sports Ministry Approves Preparatory Camp for Neeraj Chopra in Switzerland

Neeraj Chopra, who won the gold medal in the Olympics and the silver medal in the Zurich Diamond League, was given official approval for a 12-day training trip to Switzerland not long after he returned from Europe.

Chopra’s participation in a 12-day training camp in Magglingen, Switzerland, in preparation for his participation in the Diamond League 2023 final slated for Eugene, USA this September, has been approved by the Mission Olympic Cell (MOC).

The preparatory camp, which is scheduled to run from September 1 to September 12, has received a total of Rs 5.89 lakh in funding.

On Thursday, Neeraj Chopra placed second in the Diamond League competition in Zurich with a best throw of 85.71 metres.

Parul Chaudhary, a long-distance runner who qualified for the Paris Olympics by setting a national record in the women’s 3000m steeplechase in Budapest with a time of 9:15.31s, has also been added to the TOPS Core group, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced in a release on Friday.

Sharath Kamal, a professional table tennis player, received financial approval from the Mission Olympic Cell to participate in various competitions, purchase equipment, and hire Chris Pfeiffer as a personal coach through the Paris 2024 Olympics.

It has also been made possible for professional badminton doubles players Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty to bring masseuse Nishant Nagpuri with them to the China Open 2023, which is slated to take place from September 5 to 10.
