The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2031 is set to take place in the US as the country emerged as the sole bidder for the 11th edition of the global showpiece.
Although the hosts have not been confirmed, the submitted bids were unveiled, with four-time champions United States lodging the lone bid for the 2031 edition. It would be the third time that the nation has hosted the women’s football tournament.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino said at a UEFA congress on Thursday, “Today I can confirm as part of the bidding process that we received one bid for 2031 and one valid bid for 2035. The 2031 bid is from the United States of America and potentially some other CONCACAF members and the 2035 bid is from Europe and the home nations.
Should the USA host the 2031 World Cup, it will be the first time that the record champions have hosted the women’s football tournament in 28 years.
It would form part of a sporting line-up that sees the US host the men’s World Cup in 2026, the Olympic Games in 2028 and the Olympic Winter Games in 2034.
At the Belgrade event, Infantino also announced that FIFA has planned to increase the total number of participating teams from 32 to 48 at the 2031 tournament of Women’s World Cup.
As per FIFA authorities, hosts’ identity will get officially confirmed at its congress in 2026’s second quarter.
The United States is already gearing up to co-host the men’s FIFA World Cup next year along with Canada and Mexico.
