US Open 2025: Venus Williams is set to play the 2025 US Open mixed doubles event at the after she earned a wild card entry.
The competition will take place from August 19-20 ahead of the singles event.
“The only Grand Slam final – singles, doubles or mixed doubles – she’s yet to reach”, the organisers announced while confirming her entry into the field.
The 45-year-old returned to competitive tennis after a hiatus of 16 months compelled by an injury with the DC Open last week. Here, she achieved a new milestone by becoming the oldest player top win a match in women’s singles since 2004.
However, her return was cut short after she was defeated by Magdalena Frech in the second round of the women’s singles event with a score of 6-2, 6-2.

Williams will pair up with compatriot Reilly Opelka for the US Open mixed doubles event. The duo previously appeared on a preliminary entry list.
Williams has previously won the Australian Open and French Open mixed doubles titles and reached the final at Wimbledon. Her best run in Flushing Meadows is to the quarter-finals in 1998. The American owns seven Grand Slam titles in singles, 14 in women’s doubles — all won with her younger sister Serena — and two in mixed doubles.
A four-time Olympic champion, Venus won Olympic silver in mixed doubles at Rio 2016, alongside Rajeev Ram. She also won singles gold at Sydney 2000, and three women’s doubles golds alongside sister Serena, at Sydney, Beijing 2008, and London 2012.A total of 16 teams will battle out at the US Open mixed doubles event out of which 14 have been confirmed so far. Eight teams have received direct entry into the field by combined singles rankings. Six were given wild cards by the USTA.
The players with spots in the bracket include nine who have won at least one Grand Slam singles title and 14 who are ranked in the WTA or ATP top 10 for singles.
The eight duos with direct entry are:

- Belinda Bencic and No. 3 Alexander Zverev
- No. 4 Jessica Pegula and No. 15 Tommy Paul
- No. 5 Mirra Andreeva and No. 14 Daniil Medvedev

Venus Williams might also earn a wild card for the US Open singles event. She has previously been granted wild card for singles at Cincinnati Open from August 7-18.
