From Afghanistan to Dubai: A Journey of Survival

In search of employment, Usman Tariq’s first destination was Afghanistan, where he hoped to find some stability with the help of his relatives. But the weather, the conditions, and the lack of stable employment meant that he had to return home.
It wasn’t long before he decided to move to Dubai, where things only got tougher for him.

Usman Tariq’s stay in the Sonapur labor colony meant that he was employed in the kitchen of a hotel, where he spent most of his time cutting vegetables. The physical strain of the work meant that he suffered from irritation in his eyes, back pain, and emotional distress.
However, at night, cricket was back in his life.

Playing street cricket near the Hyatt Regency in Deira, Usman Tariq found his love for the game again. It was here that he made a very important transition switching from fast bowling to spin bowling. His height, unorthodox action, and ability to turn the ball quickly made him the standout bowler.

In 2017, Peshawar Zalmi held trials for the PSL in Dubai. Usman Tariq had only six balls to make an impression, and he did that very well, getting picked for the next level. However, his fate changed.

Complete availability at the second level meant that it would be impossible for Usman to leave his job. Only Usman was the sole income earner for his family; as such, he had to pull out of the tournament. Even though the pull out took an emotional toll on him, it made him even more determined.

Returning to Pakistan: The Biggest Risk of His Life

When his mother’s health began to fail, Usman Tariq made the most courageous move of his life, he left his secure job in Dubai and moved back to Pakistan.
