IPL 2026: For Ravindra Jadeja ,the tag “Rockstar” has never been just a catchy nickname. It represents a defining chapter of his cricket journey and the belief shown in him during his early days. The nickname was famously given to Jadeja by the late Shane Warne in the first season of the Indian Premier League in 2008. Back then, Jadeja was a young player trying to make his mark for the Rajasthan Royals. Warne, who captained the side, spotted his potential early and backed him in a dressing room packed with experienced stars. That trust played a huge role in Jadeja’s growth as a cricketer.
‘The Rockstar’
Now, years later, Jadeja has passed that same “Rockstar” label to young talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi after being impressed by his attitude and fearless approach. The squad has several talented youngsters, but Vaibhav has stood out for me,” Jadeja said. “His batting, maturity, and overall mindset have been excellent. He understands how to build an innings, trust his shots, and deal with quality bowling attacks.”
Jadeja appreciates Vaibhav’s performance
Jadeja also highlighted the youngster’s calm temperament, saying that composure under pressure is what makes him special. What impresses me the most is how relaxed he stays. I haven’t seen him panic or look under pressure even once. Staying calm at such a young age is a big quality. If there’s one player in the team I’d call a ‘Rockstar’, it has to be Vaibhav Suryavanshi,” he added.
The remark carries extra weight because of Jadeja’s personal connection with the nickname
During his teenage years with Rajasthan Royals, Jadeja shared a close bond with Warne, who constantly encouraged him and helped him settle into a team filled with international stars. Even after Jadeja moved to other franchises and into the Indian team setup, Warne continued to guide and support him.
Jadeja has often credited that backing for shaping his confidence and career
That is why his words for Vaibhav feel more meaningful than a routine compliment. In many ways, it seems like a symbolic handover, from a player once called “Rockstar” by Shane Warne to a youngster Jadeja now believes has the skill, temperament and confidence to shine on the big stage.
