The teenage sensation raced to a century in only 55 balls, putting India firmly in control early in the match. His innings featured six fours and six towering sixes, setting a new record for the fastest century by an Indian player in U19 World Cup history.
At just 14 years old, the Bihar youngster surpassed the previous milestone held by Raj Angad Bawa, who had scored a hundred in 69 balls against Uganda back in 2022. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also became the first Indian batter to reach a century in under sixty balls in any U19 World Cup game.

Looking at the bigger picture across all editions of the U19 World Cup, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s remarkable knock made him the second-fastest centurion in the tournament’s history. In doing so, he went past Pakistan’s Qasim Akram, who had taken 63 balls to reach his hundred against Sri Lanka in 2022.
Australia’s Will Malajczuk currently holds the overall record for the fastest U19 World Cup century, reaching the landmark in just 51 balls against Japan during the 2026 edition.

Dominating the Six Hitting Charts
Alongside breaking Bawa’s record, Sooryavanshi also set another major milestone by surpassing South Africa’s Dewald Brevis for the most sixes in a single U19 World Cup edition. He smashed an incredible 30 sixes during the tournament, moving well ahead of Brevis’ previous record of 18 from 2022.
Match Setup and Road to the Final
Earlier in the day, India Under-19 captain Ayush Mhatre won the toss and chose to bat first against England in the ICC U19 World Cup 2026 final at the Harare Sports Club.
India had secured their place in the final after a confident seven-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the semifinal. England reached the title clash by defeating Australia, the second most successful team in the tournament’s history, by 27 runs to set up the highly anticipated final showdown.
