Viktor Gyokeres Transfer Takes A New Turn

The Viktor Gyokeres saga has been dragging on longer than a VAR check in stoppage time and just when we thought Arsenal had wrapped things up, the plot has flipped.

After months of being linked to both Manchester United and Arsenal, the Swedish goal-machine looked nailed on for a move to the Emirates. But now? Everything’s suddenly gone quiet on that front. And quietly, behind the scenes, Manchester United might be gearing up for a late winner in this transfer race.

According to fresh reports from Portugal, Gyokeres and his camp are back to square one. The Arsenal deal that seemed all but done is now wobbling, and the striker’s future is once again up in the air with the Premier League still firmly on his radar. But here’s where it gets spicy: Manchester United, who were supposedly out of the running, could be surging ahead.

There’s some backstory worth knowing.

Gyokeres’ relationship with United boss Ruben Amorim dates back to their time at Sporting Lisbon, where the Swede bagged a ridiculous 66 goals in just 68 appearances under the Portuguese coach. That kind of form doesn’t go unnoticed, especially for a United side that’s crying out for a proper No.9.

But while that on-pitch connection looks golden, off-pitch drama has complicated things. Gyokeres’ agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, is reportedly “hurt” by how United handled the contract situation of Victor Lindelof, another of his clients. Lindelof, after eight years at Old Trafford, was shown the door this summer without a new contract, despite wanting to stay and reportedly being on good terms with Amorim.

That decision, according to Record, left Cetinkaya upset enough to slam the door shut on Gyokeres-to-United talk. But that door might not be as locked as we thought.

United has already splashed £133.5 million on Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha

With United already splashing £133.5 million on Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, the No.9 role remains the final piece in Amorim’s attacking jigsaw. Rasmus Hojlund hasn’t quite convinced, and Joshua Zirkzee has flattered to deceive, making Gyokeres a prime candidate to complete the rebuild.

And let’s face it: Gyokeres has clearly made up his mind about leaving Portugal. Sporting know it, his agent knows it, and now, the Premier League’s big boys are circling again.

Whether it’s Old Trafford or the Emirates, this saga isn’t over yet. But don’t be surprised if United, out of nowhere, end up hijacking this one at the last minute. Again.
