Indian fans couldn’t have asked for a better comeback from Virat Kohli. Returning to international cricket on home soil, the legendary batter lit up Ranchi with his brilliant 52nd ODI century, breaking several major international records along the way.

India did not enter the ODI series with a lot of confidence. Their captain and vice-captain were both sidelined with injuries, their top all-rounder was rested, and their best pacer was kept out to focus on T20Is. But one big positive stood out: the return of the experienced duo, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

With both senior players now focusing solely on ODI cricket, every innings matters. And in the series opener in Ranchi, they showed exactly why they remain India’s strongest pillars.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma Shine Again in Another Century Stand

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli once again delivered a memorable partnership, and this time, fans saw something different. Instead of Rohit taking charge as he usually does, Kohli was the one playing the dominant, attacking role. While Rohit contributed with a solid half-century, it was Kohli who continued the charge after his partner’s dismissal.

Even though the scoring slowed down a bit in the middle overs, Kohli kept his focus and later unleashed a flurry of attacking strokes once he crossed the three-figure mark. His knock wasn’t just special; it showcased a newer, more aggressive approach.

Virat Kohli smashed 7 sixes during his epic 135 off 120 balls, going past former Australian captain Ricky Ponting to become the highest six-hitter among No. 3 batters in international cricket.

Virat Kohli Breaks Yet Another Sachin Tendulkar Record

Virat Kohli had already surpassed Sachin Tendulkar for the most hundreds in ODI cricket. But with this Ranchi century, he went past another major milestone held by his idol. Tendulkar previously held the record for most centuries in a single format with 51 Test tons.

Now, with Virat Kohli scoring his 52nd ODI hundred, he has overtaken that record too, becoming the player with the most centuries in a single international format. This also took his overall tally to 83 international centuries.

Virat Kohli Scores the 7000th International Hundred in Cricket History

Kohli’s masterclass in Ranchi wasn’t just another ton; it was also a historic milestone. His century became the 7000th international hundred ever scored in cricket.

Here’s the list of every 1000th international century in the sport:

1st – Charles Bannerman (AUS, 1877)
1000th – Ian Chappell (AUS, 1968)
2000th – Dean Jones (AUS, 1990)
3000th – Steve Waugh (AUS, 2001)
4000th – K Sangakkara (SL, 2007)
5000th – Ross Taylor (NZ, 2014)
6000th – S Wickramasekara (Czech Rep, 2019)
7000th – Virat Kohli (IND, 2025)*

Kohli’s incredible knock in Ranchi has not only energized the Indian team but has also added another unforgettable chapter to his legendary career.
