Virat Kohli Climbs To No. 2 In ICC ODI Rankings, Narrowly Behind Rohit Sharma

Virat Kohli has taken a giant leap in the ICC ODI rankings to No. 2 after a scintillating performance in the series against South Africa. Kohli’s continued consistency with the bat helped him leapfrog New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who had been ranked second.

With 302 runs in the series at an astonishing average of 151, Kohli scored back-to-back centuries in the first two matches and an unbeaten 65 in the third as India won the three-match series 2-1.

Rohit Sharma Maintains Top Spot in ICC ODI Rankings

While Kohli rose significantly in the rankings, Rohit Sharma holds on to the top place in the ICC ODI batters’ list. Rohit made 146 runs at an average of 48.67 in the series against South Africa with two half-centuries. His good show brought him 781 rating points, just above Kohli who has 773 points.

Other ODI Ranking Movers for India: KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav

Apart from the dominance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, India saw a few other notable gains in the ODI rankings. The stand-in skipper for the series against South Africa, KL Rahul, gained two places to No. 12 in the ICC ODI batters’ rankings. Rahul made important contributions of 60 and 66* in the first two ODIs that propelled India toward success.

Kuldeep Yadav, with nine scalps in the series, shot up three places to No. 3 in the ICC ODI bowler rankings to round off a superb series. Kuldeep’s outstanding bowling was one of the key reasons behind India’s victory in the series.

Mitchell Starc Stars in Ashes, Leaps to No. 3 on Wickets Among Test Bowlers

Mitchell Starc of Australia has made giant strides in the ICC Test bowlers’ rankings, jumping three places to No. 3 for a career-high 852 rating points after taking 18 wickets in the opening two Ashes Tests against England. His back-to-back Player-of-the-Match performances have ensured his spot among the top fast bowlers in the world. Joe Root stays atop the Test batting rankings.

In the meantime, the England batsman Joe Root remains in pole position in the latest Test batting rankings. The 138* Root made in Brisbane, his maiden century in Tests in Australia, has earned him retention of his No. 1 spot.

New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and Australia’s Steven Smith have both moved a spot up to occupy No. 2 and No. 3 respectively. Williamson made 52 in the first Test against the West Indies, while Smith has so far made 103 runs at 51.50 in the ongoing Ashes series.

Dewald Brevis Cracks into Top 10 in T20I Rankings

In the T20I rankings, Dewald Brevis from South Africa leaped into the top 10, going up three places to No. 8 following his 22-run contribution in the first T20I against India.
