Even at 34, Virat Kohli is far from slowing down. Known for consistently pushing his limits, he continues to challenge himself daily. Widely recognized as one of cricket’s most physically fit players, Kohli shared exciting news on Thursday through his Instagram. The post featured a shirtless Kohli, triumphantly revealing his latest yo-yo score of 17.2, accompanied by the caption, “The happiness of finishing the yo-yo test between the dreaded cones.”
While a yo-yo score of 17.2 might not break records, it is a testament to Kohli’s unwavering commitment to fitness. Notably, during his captaincy, Kohli himself achieved a score of 19 when the yo-yo test was a prerequisite for playing in the Indian men’s cricket team. Although the current passing standard in Indian cricket stands at 16, Kohli continues to surpass expectations.
It’s worth mentioning that currently, passing the yo-yo test isn’t compulsory for playing in the Indian team. However, Kohli’s dedication to self-improvement keeps him engaged with the test’s challenges.
What is the yo-yo test, you ask?
It involves two sets of cones placed 20 meters apart. When a beep sounds, the athlete must sprint to the marker on the opposite side before the next beep sounds. They then turn around, rush back to the starting point, and repeat the process. The frequency of the beeps increases with each round. Successful completion entails reaching the cone and returning before the beep.
The test starts with a jog at level 5, involving one shuttle. Subsequently, the speed increases to level 9, still with one shuttle. The speeds continue to escalate to levels 11, 12, and 13, each with a varying number of shuttles. Levels 14 and beyond consist of eight shuttles per level.
Different teams maintain distinct standards for the yo-yo test. Presently, India requires a qualifying speed of 16:1, which means players must complete the first shuttle of speed level 16, translating to a cumulative distance of 1120 meters.
