India’s Virat Kohli is about to make history in ODIs and surpass Sachin Tendulkar in an amazing achievement. He is only 94 runs away from becoming the fastest player to score 14,000 runs in the 50-over format.
Virat Kohli Set to Break Sachin Tendulkar’s Massive ODI Record
Virat Kohli needs to reach 14,000 runs in the next 66 innings to become the fastest player to achieve this in ODIs. If he succeeds, he will break Sachin Tendulkar’s 19-year-old record and surpass Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara.
Sachin Tendulkar became the fastest to 14,000 runs in ODIs during a match against Pakistan in 2006. It was his 350th ODI innings, played in Peshawar, where he scored a brilliant century to achieve the milestone.
On the other hand, Kumar Sangakkara reached the 14,000-run milestone during a match against Australia in 2015. The game took place at the Sydney Cricket Ground, and he achieved the feat in his 378th innings in international cricket.
Fastest to 14000 runs in ODIs:
• Sachin Tendulkar – 350 innings (against Pakistan in Peshawar, February 2006)
• Kumar Sangakkara – 378 innings (against Australia in Sydney, March 2015)
Virat Kohli’s Opportunity in the Upcoming ODI Series Against England
Virat Kohli will have a great chance to reach 14,000 runs in the upcoming three-match ODI series against England. The series will begin on February 6th in Nagpur and will be India’s last series before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Kohli has been under scrutiny in recent months. The India batter has struggled to score runs, and even in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, he couldn’t find form, leading many to question his place in the team.
Virat Kohli will be eager to regain his form in the upcoming ODI series against England. This series will be crucial for him to get back into rhythm, especially with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 approaching, starting on February 19th.
Kohli last played ODIs against Sri Lanka but didn’t have a strong performance, scoring just 58 runs in three matches, averaging 19.33. Currently, he has 13,906 runs from 283 ODI innings, with an average of 58.18 and a strike rate of 93.54. He has also scored 50 centuries and 72 half-centuries in the format.
