Virat Kohli is missing India’s tours of Zimbabwe and Windies after a lean patch. The star Indian batter will return to action in the Asia Cup, starting on Sunday. Kohli’s form is a matter of concern for Team India, as they look to repeat the 2007 triumph this year.

Talking about Kohli’s form, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan said he will be key in the 2022 T20 World Cup in October-November.

“As far as the mind is concerned, what Virat Kohli is thinking, what kind of mindset he is coming in with and playing the matches, I think yes, Asia Cup is very important. However, when I look forward to the World Cup, he thrives on Australian pitches. He’s done really well,” Pathan said.

“Indian team needs Virat Kohli in top form. He comes back from the Asia Cup in good style; I think it’s a win-win situation,” he said.

When asked what if Kohli does not have a great Asia Cup campaign, Pathan said India may need to look at other options. “Indian team has so many options, they need to choose from the options,” Pathan said.

“Because you need someone going into the World Cup in excellent form. You can not have it (form) in the World Cup. I am very confident that Kohli would do well in the Asia Cup,” Pathan added.
