Virat Kohli’s Revival of form in 2022

With regular captain Rohit Sharma getting the rest he desperately needed, Kohli opened the innings with the stand-in captain, KL Rahul. He blasted an unbeaten 122 runs off only 61 balls, including 12 fours and six sixes, in a blistering innings.

This was a landmark innings for various reasons. It marked his first century in international cricket for almost three years, and his first T20I century. As he has not hit a T20I century before, this is also a first for Kohli. The innings was achieved at a stunning strike rate of 200.00 and demonstrated his return to form.

The innings was built on a solid 119-run opening partnership with KL Rahul, which set the tone for India’s imposing total of 212 for 2. A critical moment in the innings occurred when Afghanistan made a costly “blunder” by dropping him on 28, a mistake for which he punished them mercilessly.

The 2012 century was the “Genesis of a Legend.” The 108 against Sri Lanka was a mature, foundation-building innings that showcased his consistency and ability to perform under pressure.

This set the stage for the 183 against Pakistan, a true “Career-Defining Masterclass” that cemented his status as a big-game player and a master of the run chase, a performance that remains his highest ODI score and a tournament record.
