Shreyas Iyer was not picked for the Indian Test squad for the England tour, even though he did well in domestic cricket. Former cricketer Virender Sehwag is unhappy with this decision.

Shreyas Iyer Left Out of Test Squad Despite Strong Domestic Form

Sehwag believes Iyer should have been included because he is in good form. He feels it’s better to take players who are performing well, as they have a higher chance of doing well on the tour.

Virender Sehwag supports Shreyas Iyer’s aggressive style and believes it would benefit the Test team if he played with the same approach in red-ball cricket.

“When you’re in good form, it’s good to take him to the tour because there are higher chances of him performing. I would want to see him in Test team. If he keeps the same approach in Test cricket, it benefits the team.”

“If you have 2-3 players like that, it sets fear in the opposition. England plays at 6-7 runs/over. If Indian team even manages to play at 4-5 runs/over, they can put them under pressure,” Sehwag said.

Sehwag Praises Iyer’s Aggressive Style for Test Cricket

Sehwag praised Iyer’s great season and leadership in IPL 2025, questioning why he isn’t playing Test cricket.

“Iyer has had a great season, he is also the captain. Why can’t he play in Test cricket? He can definitely play all three formats,” he added.

Iyer was dropped from the Test team in 2023 but performed well in domestic cricket, helping Mumbai win the Ranji Trophy and contributing in ODIs and the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Karun Nair and Sai Sudharsan were chosen over Iyer for the Test squad due to their strong domestic performances.
