Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer seems to have a different opinion on the same discussion than anybody else. It was just when many former cricketers and experts welcome the decision of making Rahul Dravid the head coach for the Sri Lanka limited-overs tour. And also felt this is an opportunity to act as a stepping stone to over as a full-time head coach of Team India. Jaffer thinks that Dravid should not push for the same.

Jaffer said Dravid should continue to nurture young talents and build’s India’s bench strength as the head coach of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. Jaffer also said “He is going as a coach of this Indian team to Sri Lanka. I am sure those youngsters will benefit a lot. I feel that he shouldn’t push to become the coach of the National team. I feel he needs to work with these India U-19 players and India A  players at the NCA. I think the international players who play in the Indian team are a finished product”.

Rahul Dravid has been given the role of the head coach for the young side that is led by Shikar Dhawan. This young Indian team is going to play a limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. The regular skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri are currently present in England for a 5- match test series against the host.

In the history of Indian cricket, it is the first time two different sides are playing representing India in two different parts of the world almost at the same time. Jaffer says that Dravid guidance can be of more use to youngsters raising through ranks. The former Indian cricketer also says that the ones who play for India are finished products while Dravid is needed to guide the budding players more.

Jaffer also added saying that “But, Rahul Dravid mentorship and guidance are more needed at the U-19 and India A level. His guidance is crucial for them to achieve the next level. So, I think he needs to stay at the NCA for a longer period for our bench strength so that it keeps going stronger “.

“The amount of good players that are coming, the credit goes to the BCCI, the way they have developed the infrastructure and pathway. India now has a strong supply line. Even more, credit goes to Rahul Dravid, the way he is working as head coach at the NCA, and he is guiding U-19players, India A, and fringe players. There can’t be a better role model or better mentor than Rahul Dravid”’ Jaffer said.

India will play three ODI and three T 20 against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
