Sri Lankan left-arm pacer Isuru Udana who will lead the Sri Lankan bowling attack against Bangladesh in the three-match ODI series said they have no burden of expectation and hence they have nothing to lose.
The short 50 overs series will start from 23rd May, with the next two matches on 25th and 28th May respectively. Sri Lanka had made several major changes to the limited over team recently, dropping senior players like captain Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews, and Dinesh Chandimal in order to accommodate few faces for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Udana in interaction with Cricbuzz discussed at length their preparation building up to the first ODI, excerpts –
“To be honest, Bangladesh has a few superstars in their team while we have a young side and we have nothing to lose,” Udana told. “We are here to beat them, so we want to give our best to beat those guys because in their home, they are very dangerous and we know that,” he said.
Will about hot and humid conditions in Bangladesh pose a concern, Udana explained –
“I don’t think so because in Sri Lanka, it’s hotter than this,” he said. “We’re quite used to the bio-bubble life now. Doing forward, we have to stick to those plans, so I think we are ready because we had a five-six day training camp in Colombo. We also had two good sessions here, so I think all the guys are ready.”
Isuru Udana made his international debut for Sri Lanka in 2009 and has appeared in 18 ODIs and 30 T20s.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Perera was appointed as the new captain for ODI’s.

Udana was of the thinks squad selection isn’t under their control and in an inexperienced team, all have to take collective responsibilities.
“About the selection, we can’t control those things; we are here to give our best, which we have,” he said. “In this game, we all have to take responsibility, because, I can be an experienced bowler, but on a particular day, a young guy can do better than me. So I think we all have to stick together and portray our experiences,” he said.
As all there matches will be played at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket, Dhaka, Udana stated that his experience of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will come in handy in the match –
“I have played three-four years of BPL here, so I have a bit of experience. On that very day, we have to give our best to beat this team, so that’s the plan for us,” he said.
