Chelsea is now strong enough with their fourth place in the Premier League table. Timo Werner’s single goal was enough to pass the Hammers hurdle for the Bluish London side. The game’s only goal came in the 43rd minute when German Timo Werner passed the ball into the net when it arrived from Chilwell. Chelsea is 3 points ahead of West Ham and only one point behind the third-placed Leicester City, though Leicester has one more game in hand than Chelsea.
Chelsea showcased a brilliant game in the first half and took the lead. Hammers bounced back in the second half and created some decent chances but only to get stopped by Mendy. Timo Werner could have finished the game earlier as he missed an open chance yet again. It was over for Hammers when their Paraguayan defender was set off by Chris Kavanagh. It was the first in this season when Chris Kavanagh sent someone off.
West Ham missed their key players in the name of Cresswell, Declan Rice, and Michael Antonio. Chelsea is now looking strong under Thomas Tuchel’s management as they are in the semi-final of the Champions League and final of the FA Cup. They are now in a strong position to finish Top 4.
The three points from this London Derby were very much needed from both sides to secure the Champions League spot next season. West Ham is now three points behind Chelsea and now the top 4 finish looks difficult for them. Still, there are chances for West Ham to qualify for the Champions League if they finish 5th. If Chelsea or Manchester City win the Champions League or Manchester United win the Europa League, West Ham will qualify for the Champions League. David Moyes’s side will be satisfied with the Europa League slot which looks quite easy now but surely they’ll push for the Champions League.
