The French MotoGP 2025 delivered one of the most dramatic and unexpected performances as Johann Zarco won the race, starting from the 11th position at the pole. The win was specifically stunning since the Marquez brothers, Marc and Alex, have dominated the 2025 season so far, with only one race being won by a rider who was not a Marquez. Marc Marquez, the championship leader, had just won Saturday’s Sprint and was expected to continue Ducati’s 22-race winning streak.
However, it looks like fate had some other plans. Johann Zarco, who took the bold decision to stay on wet tires and dropped as low as 17th, made a remarkable comeback to seize victory. He capitalised on the Marquez brothers’ misfortune and crossed the line nearly 20 seconds ahead of Marc Marquez, who finished in the second position and broke Honda’s winless streak.
Johann Zarco On His Mom

After the race, Johann Zarco’s emotions ran high as he became the first Frenchman to win a Grand Prix in 71 years. He talked about his win and the fact that his mother was in attendance for the first time in his 17-year career on the occasion of Mother’s Day. He said, “My mother never came to the races. I have never asked her to come in 17 years of racing, because she is fine at home. This time, however, I told her it would be nice for her to come and watch the French GP, because the crowds are incredible and we have so many sponsors here.”
“Although my parents don’t feel comfortable in the pit box because of the stress, pressure and noise, I told them to go to the sponsors’ VIP area to enjoy the GP. I think they have a lot to tell their family and friends throughout the year, and I was happy to have them here,” he added.
Who Is Johann Zarco?

Johann Zarco was born in 1990 in Cannes and is one of France’s most accomplished racers. He made his first breakthrough by winning the inaugural Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2007. He became a double Moto2 World Champion in 2015 and 2016. He set a points record in the process.
His MotoGP journey began in 2017 with Tech3 Yamaha, followed by stints with KTM, Ducati, and Honda. Despite his undeniable talent and consistent podium finishes, his victories have been a rare feat. His first win was in Australia in 2023, and he remained winless ever since, until he broke the drought at the French MotoGP 2025.
Zarco’s Campaign In 2025
In 2025, Zarco’s campaign with LCR Honda has been steady but not outstanding. He had struggled to match the pace of the leading Marquez brothers, however, this win propelled him to the sixth position in the MotoGP Standings with 72 points.
What’s Next For Johann Zarco?
Looking ahead, expectations will be extremely high for Johann Zarco as this victory could be a turning point. Now he will look forward to extending his winning streak at the upcoming British GP 2025 on 25 May 2025 at the Silverstone Circuit.
