Who is Suyash Sharma, the spinner who destroyed RCB?

Kolkata Knight Riders over the years has had a pretty decent spin department. Suyash Sharma was the latest addition to the KKR spin department. Since their early years of success under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir, spin has always been the match winning factor. Earlier the whole burden of spin bowling rested on West-Indian mystery spinner, Sunil Narine. But today in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, they have a couple of great spinners to assist the leading man, Narine.

Suyash Sharma

Suyash Sharma made the fans cheer at the Eden Gardens. In the clash between KKR and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Suyash took 3 wickets as KKR handed RCB their first defeat of the tournament. He was the impact player for KKR as he replaced opener, Venkatesh Iyer.

Suyash took his first wicket of RCB’s impact player, Anuj Rawat. Rawat replaced Mohammed Siraj in the match. Suyash’s biggest scalp would be the former KKR captain and RCB pinch-hitter Dinesh Karthik. His last wicket came when he dismissed tail-ender, Karn Sharma.

The 19-year-old spinner from Delhi was bought by KKR for INR 20 lakhs during this year’s mini auction. Surprisingly the leg spinner had not played any List-A, First Class or T20 Match before the clash against Bangalore.

KKR vs RCB

RCB opted to bowl after winning the toss and took a hard grip of the match. They had KKR struggling at 89 runs with the loss of five wickets. With Andre Russell dismissed for a golden duck, no one really gave KKR any chance and expected it to be a walk in the park for RCB.

Shardul Thakur walked in at number 7 and smashed the RCB bowlers all around. Thakur along with Rinku Singh steadied the ship for KKR. Shardul scored 68 runs off just 29 balls. His knock consisted of 9 fours and 3 sixes.

In the second innings RCB were again taking control of the game as at one stage they were 44 for no loss in just 4.4 overs. Narine then dismissed Virat Kohli for 21 runs and in the next over Varun Chakravarthy dismissed the RCB captain Faf du Plessis who had scored 23 runs in just 12 balls.

RCB kept digging themselves into deep trouble as spinners from KKR took over the match. The first five wickets were shared between Chakravarthy and Narine. Thakur after his blistering knock took the ball in hand and picked the wicket of Michael Bracewell.

After RCB lost 6 wickets, Suyash entered the match and gave a magnificent debut performance.
