Explained: Why 3 WPL 2026 Matches Won’t Have Spectators?

3 Min Read

Some of the WPL 2026 matches scheduled for 14th, 15th, and 16th January are likely to be held in empty stadiums without fans in attendance in Navi Mumbai. The venue for the matches would be the DY Patil Sports Academy, one of the main stadiums assigned for the Women’s Premier League.

Why 3 WPL 2026 Matches Won’t Have Spectators?

According to reports, the local law and order authorities have already warned the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that they may not be in a position to secure the matches as the municipal corporation elections have been scheduled for the 15th of January.

With the expected use of the police force at the time of the municipal corporation elections, it may become difficult to handle the crowds at the stadium.

Final Decision Yet to Be Taken by BCCI

Although it seems that the matches are set to be held without fans, it is important to note that the final decision regarding the same is not yet out. The BCCI is still considering the same issue and is bound to make an official statement regarding fans attending the WPL matches in Navi Mumbai in the year 2026.

Tickets Not Listed on Official Platform

To add to the rumors, the online ticketing website of WPL 2026 has so far not put up tickets for purchase for matches scheduled for January 14, 15, and 16. This has furthered the speculation that the matches shall proceed without the support of fans in case adequate security measures are not put in place.

Matches That Could Be Affected

If the decision is confirmed, the following WPL 2026 fixtures are likely to be played behind closed doors:

January 14: Delhi Capitals vs UP Warriorz

January 15: Mumbai Indians vs UP Warriorz

January 16: Gujarat Giants vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Impact on WPL 2026 Atmosphere

This move will be a setback for fans, since the WPL 2026 has seen its popularity with tickets rising and stadium attendance building up. But player safety and security will always be the top priority taken by the organizers.

Awaiting Official Confirmation

For now, fans and franchises await the final call from the BCCI regarding the crowd update. Until then, the possibility of matches in WPL 2026 at Navi Mumbai being held with no fans remains high.
