Why are Sehwag and Gavaskar being trolled on Twitter?

2 Min Read

Virender Sehwag and Sunil Gavaskar are being trolled on social media platforms like Twitter for their ‘Kamla Pasand’ advertisements. Both Sehwag and Gavaskar were seen eating ‘Kamla Pasand silver coated elaichi’ in the advertisement. Kamla Pasand uses surrogate advertising through their ‘Elaichi’ to basically advertise their ‘Pan Masala’.

Kamla Pasand even has great Bollywood actors in their advertisements. Last year they created ads featuring Bollywood legend, Amitabh Bachchan and actor Ranveer Singh. They too were involved in surrogate advertising as they were also advertising for ‘Kamla Pasand’s silver coated elaichi’. The ad featuring former Indian batters Gavaskar and Sehwag caused an uproar among their fans and cricket fans. Here is a look at the reactions from people on Twitter.

Sehwag was trolled even further as his statement on the clash between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir also went viral. Sehwag argued that the two “icons” shouldn’t set a poor example for children by engaging in such activities, but those same remarks came back to bite him when critics accused the former India opener of being hypocritical in light of his involvement with an advertisement for the Indian tobacco company.

On Twitter, people aired their annoyance against Viru and Sunil Gavaskar, two Indian sports legends who starred in the endorsement. Sehwag and Gavaskar both called for a much harsher punishment for Kohli and Gambhir after their brawl, arguing that the 100% fine levied by the BCCI was insufficient and that banning them would prevent future fights of this nature.
