Virender Sehwag and Sunil Gavaskar are being trolled on social media platforms like Twitter for their ‘Kamla Pasand’ advertisements. Both Sehwag and Gavaskar were seen eating ‘Kamla Pasand silver coated elaichi’ in the advertisement. Kamla Pasand uses surrogate advertising through their ‘Elaichi’ to basically advertise their ‘Pan Masala’.
Kamla Pasand even has great Bollywood actors in their advertisements. Last year they created ads featuring Bollywood legend, Amitabh Bachchan and actor Ranveer Singh. They too were involved in surrogate advertising as they were also advertising for ‘Kamla Pasand’s silver coated elaichi’. The ad featuring former Indian batters Gavaskar and Sehwag caused an uproar among their fans and cricket fans. Here is a look at the reactions from people on Twitter.

Money can change people just like that
With a single ad, it has managed to destroy both my and my father’s childhood cricketing idols

Looking at the stellar star cast of Pan Masala ads; Amitabh, Ranveer, Gavaskar & Sehwag for Kamla Pasand & Shahrookh, Akshay & Ajay Devgan for Vimal; I wonder what must be the volume and margin in this biz! pic.twitter.com/6TYmdvjicJ

Why two icons of the country needs to do surrogate advertising to promote a Pan Masala brand? Who eats Kamla Pasand Elaichi? None of them really have any need for money! They have fledgling businesses, lucrative contracts then why? Why spoil your own image? #Gavaskar #Sehwag pic.twitter.com/IP1xFyGM58

Sehwag was trolled even further as his statement on the clash between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir also went viral. Sehwag argued that the two “icons” shouldn’t set a poor example for children by engaging in such activities, but those same remarks came back to bite him when critics accused the former India opener of being hypocritical in light of his involvement with an advertisement for the Indian tobacco company.
On Twitter, people aired their annoyance against Viru and Sunil Gavaskar, two Indian sports legends who starred in the endorsement. Sehwag and Gavaskar both called for a much harsher punishment for Kohli and Gambhir after their brawl, arguing that the 100% fine levied by the BCCI was insufficient and that banning them would prevent future fights of this nature.
Virender Sehwag on Cricbuzz (on the Kohli-Gambhir spat): "These are the icons of our country. If icons say or do something, lakhs of kids follow them. They think if my icon has done so, it must be right."
