India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has established himself as the most dynamic player since his debut. Pant has guided India to victory with several match-winning performances. He has built his name as someone who can change the game with his power-hitting.
Pant has also showcased his impressive skills behind stumps and has never let the Indian cricket fans miss MS Dhoni. His constant chatter, lively energy, and quick work keep the entire team motivated throughout his time on the field. In the cricketing world, Pant is known as “Spiderman”, find out here.
Pant life has been a rollercoaster journey over the past few years. From scripting India’s historic victory at the Gabba against Australia to surviving a life-threatening car accident, Pant has experienced some of the toughest challenges of his career in a very short span of time.
The 27-year-old had to stay away from cricket for nearly 14 months following a tragic accident. However, he made a strong comeback to the game in IPL and made an immediate impact, playing a crucial role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign.
Why is Rishabh Pant called ‘Spiderman’?
Rishabh Pant earned the nickname “Spidey” during a Test series against Australia in 2021, when he was heard singing, “Spiderman, Spiderman, tune churaya mere dil ka chain” from behind the stumps. The stump mic clip quickly caught everyone’s attention, and fans nicknamed him “Spidey.”
The nickname gained even more attention due to his acrobatic reflexes after launching a perfect front-flip on the pitch during the Headingley Test, while he repeated that again in IPL 2025 after smashing a century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

However, Pant has faced a dip in form as he has managed to score just 286 runs in IPL 2026 at an average of 28.60 and a strike rate of 140.20. Meanwhile, he has also been removed from the Indian Test vice-captaincy role and sacked from the ODI team, which will tour Afghanistan for a three-match series.
Additionally, Pant, who has been leading Sanjiv Goenka-owned Lucknow Super Gaints has been going through a rough path from past two years, as they have failed to qualify for the playoffs. In IPL 2026, LSG managed to win only four matches and ended the season with just eight points and nine loss.
