WI vs BAN 1st T20I: Seales And Hosein Shine As West Indies Go 1-0 Up In Chattogram

3 Min Read

WI vs BAN: West Indies skipper Shai Hope set an example with a match-winning effort as the WI won by 16 runs against Bangladesh to take the three-match T20I series 1-0. Hope, along with Rovman Powell, powered a spectacular late acceleration after a nervous beginning, taking West Indies to a fighting 165/3.

Hope was not out on 46 off 28 balls, and Powell, who was playing his 100th T20I, smashed 44 off 28 balls. Their unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 83 completely altered the game’s momentum.

Nasum Ahmed’s Tight Spell Keeps West Indies in Check Early On

Bangladesh started well with the ball under the guidance of Nasum Ahmed’s tight spell of 0/15 in four overs. Openers Brandon King (33) and Alick Athanaze (34) gave a solid start, but they were unable to push the pace on a slow surface.

Rishad Hossain got rid of Athanaze with a deceptive delivery, while Taskin Ahmed sent packing King and Sherfane Rutherford in successive overs, leaving the visitors in a precarious position halfway through the innings.

Hope and Powell Blaze in the Death Overs

Hope and Powell put on a fire show in the last overs after a subdued middle part of the game. Hope cleared the boundary twice against Rishad before blasting Taskin Ahmed for another high six.

Powell came in with a 102-metre mammoth hit against Mustafizur Rahman, and three successive sixes against Tanzim Hasan in the last over. West Indies picked up 51 runs off the last three overs, turning their innings from humble to match-winner.

Bangladesh Crumble in Powerplay Against Seales and Hosein

Pursuing 166, Bangladesh faced a difficult beginning. Jayden Seales, Akeal Hosein, and Jason Holder dismantled the top order and left Bangladesh at 42/4 within six overs.

Tanzid Hasan’s aggressive opening was ended by an incredible Romario Shepherd catch, and Litton Das and Saif Hassan were dismissed by Hosein’s astute variations. Shamim Hossain’s dismissal by Holder added to the crisis for Bangladesh.

Lower Order Fightback Fails to Rescue Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s middle and lower order attempted to battle back through Tanzim Hasan Sakib (33 off 27) and Nasum Ahmed (19), who put on a 40-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Holder and Seales, though, fought back at important stages to douse any hopes of a fightback.

Seales took 3/27, Holder 3/29, and Hosein 2/19, as Bangladesh were bowled out for 149 off 19.3 overs.
